This workout combines three high-skill gymnastics movements (pistols, double unders, toes-to-bars) with a brutal format: 5 rounds where your worst round counts. The 5-minute window creates time pressure—athletes must complete all three movements quickly to build rest, but fatigue accumulates across rounds. Pistols demand leg strength and balance; double unders require coordination; toes-to-bars hit grip and core under fatigue. Most average athletes will struggle with pistol volume or grip endurance on toes-to-bars late in the workout. The scoring mechanism (worst round) punishes any single weak round, forcing consistent performance despite mounting fatigue.
This workout develops the following fitness attributes:
Pistols and toes-to-bars are the primary skill limiters — beginners will struggle with balance and hip flexor fatigue, while double unders add coordination tax under fatigue. L5 (~2:30) assumes broken pistols (8+8), unbroken or near-unbroken DUs, and 2-3 sets of T2B with short transitions. Score is worst round, so pacing consistency matters.
All three movements are bodyweight gymnastics skills: Pistol Squat (bodyweight leg movement), Double-Under (jump rope coordination skill), and Toes-to-Bar (bodyweight pulling/core movement).
| Attribute | Score | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Endurance | 7/10 | Five rounds of metabolically demanding movements with minimal rest creates sustained cardiovascular demand. The 5-minute window forces consistent aerobic output across all rounds. |
| Stamina | 8/10 | High rep ranges (16 pistols, 50 double unders, 16 toes-to-bars per round) demand significant muscular endurance, particularly in legs, shoulders, and core across five rounds. |
| Strength | 4/10 | Pistols and toes-to-bars require relative bodyweight strength, but the focus is muscular endurance rather than maximal force production. Limited strength stimulus. |
| Flexibility | 7/10 | Pistols demand exceptional ankle, hip, and thoracic mobility. Toes-to-bars require significant hamstring and hip flexibility. High mobility demands throughout. |
| Power | 6/10 | Double unders and toes-to-bars require explosive hip extension and wrist speed. Pistols demand powerful leg drive. Moderate power emphasis mixed with endurance. |
| Speed | 7/10 | Quick cycling through high-rep movements is essential. Double unders specifically demand fast wrist turnover. Minimizing transition time between movements is critical for success. |
