In Honor Of
Lt. Michael P. Murphy
U.S. Navy SEAL · 1976 — 2005
“Murph” was his favorite workout. He died June 28, 2005 in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, leaving cover to call in his team. Posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
Every Memorial Day, we sweat a fraction of what he gave.

The Standing Anomaly
The David Berlin Empire
A vested clean sweep across three different years. While the rest of the field rotates in and out, Berlin shows up, straps in 20 lb, and posts a time. Every. Single. Year. The 2022 PR (36:37) would have been the all-time men’s gym record — vest or no vest — in any year except 2025.

The Women’s Rx Drought of 2022
Eight Rx men. Zero Rx women. Whether it was the weather, the calendar, or a coordinated rebellion, nobody on the women’s side wore the vest that day. We don’t talk about it much. We never forget.

Excuse of the Decade
Thomas O’Brien · 40:52
Caption: “No vest — pulled calf.” Ran two miles on a pulled calf and still beat half the field. Whatever a pulled calf is, we’d like ours to do that.

“Can’t believe I did that.” — Brendan, neither can we. Welcome to the club. There’s ice in the freezer and a chair with your name on it.

Two firsts, both promotions. Shmaya: “First time not scaled!” 50:38 — crossed into Rx. Juriy: “First time unpartitioned.” 50:18 — 100/200/300 straight through, no Cindy rounds. Harder than Rx, and he knows it.

“No vest, but first time Rx!” Reader, this is what coaches live for. Pure joy. The kind of caption you screenshot and put on the fridge.
